Hamilton Renovation

The owners of this three-level house built into a hill at Hamilton wanted more space and a contemporary feel to their home. But our key challenge (and one of the reasons for the property’s faded character) was difficult access. With a drop of about 14m from the front to the back, the house had to be wrapped in scaffolding, and everything brought in and out by hand. This renovation project extended to all levels and focused largely on opening up poky rooms and small windows to create clean, uncluttered living areas that took full advantage of the magnificent views. The work involved repositioning the stairwell, removing walls, changing the roofline and adding rooms without increasing the ‘footprint’ of the house. Extensive use of glass combined with light internal colours and the natural warmth of remilled timbers complemented the stunning open plan effect. *Check out the ‘before’ images to fully appreciate the transformation.
